Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan
Uncle of 26/11 hero Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, K Mohanan, was battling for life at a local hospital here after an alleged self-immolation attempt in front of the Parliament late Thursday evening.
He was protesting that the government was not doing enough to honour the victims of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
A native of Kozhikode in Kerala, Mohanan set himself on fire near Vijay Chowk.
He was rushed to a hospital with over 90 per cent burn injuries.
Officials attending to Mohanan said he was not satisfied with the government’s attitude towards the martyrs.

Tukaram Gopal Omble
Recently promoted, Assistant Sub Inspector Tukaram Omble was on night shift when the walkie-talkie crackled. Two terrorists had hijacked a car and were heading for Girgaum Chowpatty. Omble along with his colleagues was at the barricade set up close to the Chowpatty signal. The attackers tried to escape on seeing the barricade, but hit the divider when they tried to turn the car. Omble moved closer to one of them, and grabbed his gun with both hands. With the barrel pointing at him, Omble took the shot as the trigger was pulled. He collapsed, but held on to the weapon. By this time, his colleagues had managed to capture that gunman, the only one to be captured alive.Omble was martyred close to the beach where less than a year back he had been applying lime juice on sting injuries when thousands of jellyfish had washed ashore. He had been asked to keep people off the beach. They would not heed. He had gone home and read up that lime juice alleviated the pain from jellyfish stings. He had bought a bagful of limes with his own money. Concern came naturally to Omble. He would cook pavbhaji and invite his neighbour’s children. Often he would bring them chocolates. He had promised a grandchild tablas just weeks earlier. He wanted to open a place in Satara, his hometown, to provide financial help to orphaned and
destitute children for their education.
Many people got an sms for 26/11 to come to the Gateway of India and light a candle…. there were some more SMS’s and emails inviting citizen to Gateway on 3rd December, 2008.
Well, it’s the normal Indian Tendency–call it the “why do I bother attitude” within the hearts or Mahatma’s principles of “forgiving and forgetting” on the outside that handful of terrorists can have courage of molesting India time and again. They too know that behind the mask of “Spirit of Mumbai” or “bouncing back” lies a “docile, hapless selfish person”–The “poor selfish person” also knows he can’t do much–as he knows the judiciary system, the politicians and willingly chooses to stay out. Hence people tend to forget these assaults and hence we get more assaulted.
For a change now, since media has become quite active there is some impact of our anger and hope this anger remains. Last 24 hours has seen 2 Big Resignations and 1 on line–
Dome of the Taj is nearly all burn’t out! Only the central post remains; the base of the dome is still burning! TV Cameras are located on diagonally opposite side of Taj and cannot see the dome; TV coverage only shows glow from burning dome! TV is now saying that shots are heard inside the Taj and all the terrorists are NOT YET cleared!

OMG! One of the domes of the Taj is on fire; It is burning like a bonfire! I can actually see the structs/frameworks under the tiles in full blaze. OMG! NO! This can’t be happening!

Ashok Kamte (23 February 1965 - 26 November 2008)
Ashok Kamte was killed in action by terrorists during the Mumbai attacks, on 26 November 2008 in a narrow lane between St. Xavier’s College and the Rang Bhavan opposite Corporation Bank ATM just a stone away from Crime Branch office.
As Mr. Kamte was known for his cool temperament and negotiation skills he was summoned when attack began. He was the Additional Commissioner of East zone, an area not under attack. When he reached CST area, he met ATS Chief Hemant Karkare and others. They took a Qualis from the Azad Maidan Police Station (AMPS), with Kamte taking taking AK47 himself. When they reached rear entrance of the Cama and Albless Hospital ( Cama ) which is next to AMPS, Kamte fired at terrorists, to which the terrorists retaliated with handgranade so Kamte suggested to take on terrorists from front entrance of Cama. By then the terrorists had left Cama sensing trouble. As the cops were moving they received wireless message that terrorists were hiding behind a red car in the same lane.
